The surgeon
A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he was the first in Britain to remove a growth from the larynx and a leading advocate for purpose-built operating theatres to reduce infection risk.
The historian
Alongside his surgical career, Walker researched and wrote on the history and archaeology of the Peterborough district, presenting papers to the Peterborough Congress and publishing a book-length study of the Napoleonic prisoner of war depot at Norman Cross.
