A shopping park with one of Peterborough’s great engineering names, Brotherhood combines fashion, homeware, crafts, coffee and everyday essentials with direct buses and free parking on a landmark Walton industrial site.
Before shoppers came here for clothing, furniture and family essentials, this was the home of Peter Brotherhood, one of the engineering firms that helped make Peterborough an industrial powerhouse. The company moved from London to Walton in 1906, bringing skilled employment and advanced manufacturing to the city.
Its engineers produced turbines, compressors, power-generating machinery and equipment used by the marine and defence industries. The company became part of the story that placed Peterborough at the forefront of British engineering during the twentieth century. The former works were redeveloped as a retail park in the late 1980s, but the Brotherhood name was retained. It is an unusually successful piece of everyday place memory: thousands of people still use the name of a pioneering engineering business whenever they arrange a shopping trip.
Although its official name is Brotherhood Shopping Park, many Peterborians still call it Brotherhood Retail Park or simply Brotherhoods. A major £25 million redevelopment in 2011 and 2012 created the modern arrangement of large stores around a central surface car park.
Today, the park offers around 150,000 square feet of shopping and services. Its strengths are family fashion, homeware, furniture, crafts, gifts and value shopping, supported by a café and a 24-hour gym. The large-format shops make it particularly useful when visitors want to compare products or complete several substantial purchases in one journey.
Brotherhood also acts as an important retail hub for Walton, Paston, Werrington, Gunthorpe and northern Peterborough. Its position close to Lincoln Road and the A47 gives it a wider regional catchment, while frequent buses mean it is not exclusively dependent on car travel.

- Individual businesses set their own hours. Many larger shops trade around 9am–8pm Monday–Saturday, with shorter Sunday hours.

- The shopping park is free to enter. Purchases, refreshments, workshops and leisure activities are charged separately.
- By car
- The park is reached from Lincoln Road and is close to the A47. Enter PE4 6ZR into satellite navigation.
- Parking
- More than 500 spaces are available, with up to four hours free between 6.30am and 9.30pm Monday–Saturday and 6.30am and 5.15pm Sunday.
- Outside parking hours
- A maximum stay of 15 minutes applies outside the stated free-parking periods. Overnight gym visitors must register their vehicle inside the gym.
- Electric vehicles
- Eight ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging ports are available. Charging fees and parking restrictions are separate, so check both before leaving the vehicle.
- By bus
- Route 1 stops outside the park and generally runs every ten minutes. Several less-frequent local and interurban services also call nearby.
- By train
- Peterborough railway station is in the city centre. Continue to Brotherhood by bus or taxi.
- Access
- Blue Badge spaces are provided close to store entrances. Most approaches are level or step-free, but internal layouts differ between businesses.
- Toilets
- There is no shared indoor mall. Customer and accessible toilets are available within some businesses, subject to their individual opening arrangements.
- Food and drink
- A café operates within the park, with further food outlets nearby. Opening hours and dietary provision vary.
