All Aboard for the Station Quarter Transformation

Peterborough is set to welcome an exciting new era of connectivity, beauty, and opportunity. The Station Quarter regeneration project has officially secured £47.8 million in government funding, as part of a wider £65 million investment that will completely transform how visitors, residents, and businesses experience the city’s main arrival point.

A New First Impression

The first phase of works will replace the outdated Cowgate underpass with a safe, direct pedestrian and cycle route linking the station to the city centre. Visitors will step out into an attractive, open gateway rather than navigating dark walkways — making arrivals to Peterborough brighter, safer, and more welcoming.

The project will deliver a brand-new western entrance, complete with a multi-storey car park, while the existing eastern side will benefit from a fully refurbished entrance and an inviting new Station Square. This double-sided approach will make the station easier to use and more efficient for everyone.

Greener, More Welcoming Spaces

Public spaces around the station will be completely reimagined with landscaped planting, improved street layouts, and measures to protect the area from flooding. The result will be a cleaner, greener environment that encourages people to walk, cycle, and enjoy the city’s public realm.

Unlocking the Future

By replacing surface-level car parks with new facilities, the development will free up land for future homes, workplaces, cafés, and cultural spaces. The Station Quarter will not just be a travel hub — it will be a vibrant place to spend time, meet people, and connect with the wider city.

A Boost for the Whole City

Once complete, the Station Quarter will improve accessibility for residents, provide a more attractive gateway for visitors, and offer local businesses the chance to thrive in a revitalised location. It’s a bold investment in Peterborough’s future — one that will leave a lasting positive mark on the city’s identity.
