Step into the cab of one of the most iconic trains ever to run on Britain’s railways. The InterCity 125, also known as the High Speed Train (HST), revolutionised rail travel and remains one of the most successful passenger trains ever built.

About the Experience

Built by British Rail Engineering Limited between 1975 and 1982, the InterCity 125 was designed for high-speed main line running and became famous for its performance, reliability and longevity.

At the Nene Valley Railway, you can enjoy the rare opportunity to drive our preserved HST, experiencing what it’s like to sit in the driver’s seat of this legendary train — at our permitted line speed of 25mph.

This starter experience lasts approximately one and a half hours and includes both theory and practical driving.

During the session, two participants share the experience, taking turns in the cab to drive the HST over a total distance of approximately 12 miles, completing one return journey to Peterborough with all station stops.

Although only one power car provides traction, the train will be driven from both power cars during the experience.

Participants will also receive souvenir items to mark their time at the controls.
