Showcase Cinema de Lux Peterborough

Part of Peterborough life since 1988, Showcase has grown from the region’s largest new multiplex into a 13-screen Cinema de Lux, combining enormous choice, fully reclining seats and free parking with nearly four decades of shared big-screen memories.

When Showcase opened at Boongate in December 1988, it transformed cinema-going in Peterborough. Thirteen screens in one purpose-built venue meant more films, more showtimes and an entirely new kind of night out. Generations have since grown up visiting for first cinema trips, birthday outings, teenage evenings, dates and opening-weekend blockbusters.

Its survival matters. Cinema has moved through video, DVDs, home entertainment and streaming, yet Showcase has continued to invest in the experience that cannot be reproduced at home. Its Cinema de Lux transformation introduced fully customisable recliners throughout the building, generous legroom, reserved seating and upgraded digital presentation across all 13 auditoriums.

The breadth of the programme remains one of the venue’s greatest strengths. Alongside major new releases and family films, Showcase presents independent titles, classic films, event cinema, concert screenings, theatre, opera and special-interest programming. With 13 screens available, smaller releases can often sit beside the biggest international blockbusters.

The cinema is also one of Peterborough’s most accessible entertainment venues. Wheelchair spaces are available in every screen, assisted-hearing and audio-description facilities are provided, and subtitled screenings appear every day. Weekly sensory-friendly performances create a more relaxed environment for visitors who benefit from lower sound and adjusted lighting.
