Four floors, more than ninety stores, a 1920s arcade tucked inside it and an IMAX screen on the roof. Queensgate is where most visits to Peterborough city centre begin.
Queensgate opened in 1982 and has been the anchor of Peterborough's city centre ever since. It sits directly between the railway station and Cathedral Square, which makes it hard to avoid and easy to use: arrive by train, walk in under cover, and you are in the middle of the city without crossing a road.
The last few years have brought the biggest change since it was built. A rooftop development added an eight-screen Odeon Luxe with an IMAX auditorium, opening at the end of 2024, and in December 2025 Frasers took the former John Lewis space across two floors, bringing Sports Direct, USC, Jack Wills and Game in with it and returning department store shopping to the city centre.

Frasers and Sports Direct in the former John Lewis, plus Primark, River Island, Boots, New Look, TK Maxx and the Danish homeware chain Søstrene Grene.
Unity
A ground floor space run by Up The Garden Bath, home to around fifty independent businesses from across the city under one roof.
Westgate Arcade
The city's oldest shopping arcade, predating Queensgate by half a century and absorbed into it when the centre was built. Independent shops under a glazed roof.
Odeon Luxe & IMAX
Eight screens including an IMAX auditorium, reached from the second floor. Opened at the end of 2024 as part of a sixty million pound development.
Indoor mini golf
Puttstars brings indoor golf to the centre, which makes Queensgate a genuine wet weather option for families rather than just somewhere to shelter.
Coffee to a sit-down meal
Cafés and chains throughout the centre, with more restaurant space added alongside the cinema development.

The city's main open space, with markets, events and outdoor tables directly outside the centre's eastern exits.

Five minutes away on Priestgate, covering the city's history from Jurassic sea reptiles to the Napoleonic prison camp at Norman Cross.
Long Causeway
The pedestrianised street running alongside, with further shops and the route through to Bridge Street.
