Build an Awesome Summer at Peterborough Cathedral

This summer, Peterborough Cathedral will become the setting for Travelling Bricks, an extraordinary globally touring exhibition made from over one million LEGO® bricks, combined with hands-on interactive experiences designed for families to create, explore, and play together.

Set within the Cathedral’s breathtaking historic interior, the exhibition features 120 large-scale models across 60 scenes, created by professional artists. Visitors are taken on a journey through four zones,  Air, Land, Sea and Space, discovering transport history through extraordinary builds, from early inventions to modern engineering icons.

But this exhibition is far more than something to simply walk through. Alongside the main exhibition is a huge interactive building space designed to be explored at your own pace, with over 200,000 LEGO® bricks available for visitors to use freely. This is a space to pause, sit down, and let imaginations run wild! Families are encouraged to take their time, experiment, and create whatever comes to mind, whether that’s something carefully planned or completely spontaneous! No set outcome, no screens, and no pressure to rush; just the simple enjoyment of making something together, brick by brick.

For younger visitors, the experience continues in the Giant Soft Bricks Playland, a dedicated soft play area where imagination and movement lead the way. Here, children can climb, build, stack and explore in a safe environment designed for hands-on play.

COO of Peterborough Cathedral, Jack Pishhorn said:

“Following the incredible success of our Titanosaur exhibition, we’re proud to bring another world-class experience to  Peterborough Cathedral. Travelling Bricks continues our ambition to offer exhibitions that not only inspire visitors but also support the wider visitor economy across the city. We know events like this encourage people to spend more time here by exploring, staying longer and discovering everything Peterborough has to offer. At the same time, it creates a space for families to slow down, be together and enjoy the simple pleasure of creating something side by side.”

From a 7.2-metre-long Titanic and a towering 3-metre rocket, to detailed aircraft including a Boeing 747 and historic ships such as HMS Victory and SS Great Britain, there is plenty to discover throughout the exhibition. But just as important is the opportunity to pause, use your imagination, and create something of your own along the way. Travelling Bricks brings together a major exhibition built entirely from LEGO® bricks with a fully immersive, hands-on building and soft play experience all under one roof…but at its heart is a simple but increasingly rare concept: slow down, create together, and rediscover the value of real-world play.
