Standing proudly on the edge of Stamford, Burghley House is a masterpiece of the Elizabethan age — a magnificent stately home that has welcomed visitors for over 400 years. Built by Sir William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, it remains one of the country’s most complete and awe-inspiring examples of sixteenth-century architecture.

Step inside to explore grand staterooms adorned with fine art, tapestries, and carvings, and discover intimate family rooms that reveal generations of life at Burghley. Outside, the house is surrounded by 300 acres of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown, where serene lakes and ancient trees frame breathtaking views.

The Gardens of Surprise and Sculpture Garden invite curiosity and reflection, blending water features, contemporary art, and hidden follies with playful design. Throughout the year, Burghley hosts a vibrant programme of events — from the world-famous Burghley Horse Trials and outdoor cinema evenings to artisan markets and festive celebrations.

With its rich history, artistic treasures, and expansive parkland, Burghley House offers a quintessential English heritage experience — equally captivating for first-time visitors and lifelong admirers.
