City-centre update

New public toilets are on the way

Better facilities. A better city-centre welcome.

Peterborough City Council has committed to installing new public toilets in the city centre through the Government’s Pride in Place programme.

The lack of central toilet provision has been one of the most consistent issues raised by residents in recent consultations about the future of Peterborough city centre.

The proposed facilities will be modular, prefabricated and accessible. The precise location and final design are still being developed.

Expected By the end of March 2027 The programme is currently expected to deliver the new facilities within this timeframe.
Type Modular and accessible The proposed city-centre toilets are planned as prefabricated, accessible facilities.
Funding £1.5m Pride in Place programme Toilet provision forms part of the wider government-funded city-centre improvement programme.
Likely location Around St John’s Square The exact site has not yet been confirmed.

Still to be confirmed: the number of toilets, their exact location and whether they will be free to use.
